David attended Dakota High School and then received a degree from the University of Illinois College of Agriculture and finally the University of Illinois College of Law. David returned to Freeport in 1983 to practice with Schmelzle & Kroeger Law Offices. In 2002 Shockey & Cox LLC was formed.
David’s practice has focused on estate planning, farm real estate and agricultural law. He has written for the Illinois Bar Journal, spoken for the Illinois Institute for Continuing Legal Education, the University of Illinois Extension Service and many other community organizations.
In community activities, David is a member of Rotary, the University of Illinois Foundation and its Alumni Association. He is a past member of the Highland Community College Board of Trustees for 18 years. He served as Chairman of the Stephenson County Republican Committee, Chairman of Illinois Foundation FFA and president of the Stephenson County Bar Association.
Steve is a graduate of Orangeville High School, Highland Community College, the University of Illinois College of Engineering and College of Law. His practice has focused on Municipal Law, Real Estate, Renewable Energy and Corporate Law.
Steve is active in several charitable organizations, boards and committees including the Freeport Area Church Cooperative, FHN Family Counseling Center and the Highland Community College Foundation.
He has held the roles of President of the Stephenson County Bar Association and Chair of the Malcolm Eaton Enterprises Board of Trustee
